AN EXPERIENCE AMONGST THE OLIVE TREES IN THE COUNTRYSIDE OF PIRAN
TASTING of food with olive oil and the presentation of work and life amongst the olive trees
The program includes a presentation of the activities of the ecological olive farm (farming, tourism, trainings, research). We present life in an Istrian settlement, according to principles of sustainability. We present the olive tree, olive plantation and the work at the plantation while preserving the biodiversity, and lowering the stress on the environment, and a simple explanation of the basic terms of ecologogy.
We shoe the procedure of determing the quality of olive oil. By tasting you will be able do determine the characteristics of samples and learn about the quality of extra virgin olive oil.
Tastings will be served with olives from brine, olive spread, aubergine (eggplants) in home-made olive oil, brad and herbal drink (syrup or tea).
DURATION: 2 - 3 hours
LANGUAGE: Slovene and English.
WHO IS THE PROGRAM MEANT FOR: admirers of nature and Istrian landscape in smaller groups.
LOCATION: Sv. Peter 115 (village above the Dragonja valley).
ACCESS to the location with a car or mini bus, by bike, or by foot (through the marked paths for hikers from Dragonja or the neighbouring villages). Public transport or bigger bus drives to the Sv. Peter village - Špehi, after that about 900 m asphalt road needs to be walked - or we can pick up if required. The distance from Portorož is 15km, and from Koper it's 18km.

For children, elementary or high school, extracurricular activities, for single students, or other interested people.
The gropus will attend different observations and measurements in nature.
We enable field research work. We prepare the content of learning with the repesentatives, for a 4 - 5 hour long science day. The science day includes professional guidance through the ecological farm and olive plantation. Our goal is to approach present topics on the environment, preservation of the environment, such as earth, water, air pollution, dealing with waste, all about farming, forestry, tourism, urbanisation. We believe that a sustainable attitude towards life and nature does not only include knowledge about preservation of nature, but also connects itself to other areas, such geography, physics, chemistry, and sociological sciences.
Price: per agreement, depending on the size and content of the program.
